What's New In Decomp Buddy

Everything new, better, fixed and removed, version by version. The app shows the same notes after every update. Get the latest version.

Version 0.32.0 · November 2, 2026

New

  • Install When Online: set up a game with no internet and it waits in Installed Games, then installs by itself as soon as you're back online.
  • Save All Covers For Offline in Settings: every cover on your computer at once (about 200 MB), so Browse keeps its pictures with no internet.

Better

  • Browse opens in a moment, even the very first time: Decomp Buddy downloads one finished catalog, covers included, instead of building it on your computer. A copy comes inside the app, so a computer that has never been online still has every game to look through.
  • Offline or on bad Wi-Fi, Browse and Coming Soon open on their saved lists right away and update quietly when the internet answers. Decomp Buddy says how old the list is.
  • Covers are kept at the size the app shows them, so they load faster and take a fifth of the space.

Fixed

  • Opening Decomp Buddy no longer uses up GitHub's hourly lookup limit, so a new computer can set games up straight away.

Version 0.31.1 · October 30, 2026

Fixed

  • Setting up a game no longer re-reads its project page on GitHub first. Decomp Buddy already checked every game before listing it, so it goes straight to the download, and a new computer no longer runs into GitHub's lookup limit.

Version 0.31.0 · October 30, 2026

New

  • What's New: after an update, Decomp Buddy shows what changed, in your language. Every version is also listed at decompbuddy.com/changelog.
  • An iPhone App page in the menu, for Decomp Buddy Remote, our iPhone app (coming soon).
  • Install With Decomp Buddy: every game on decompbuddy.com has an Install button that opens the game right here, ready for your game file.
  • Safety Report on every game: when its download was scanned, who uploaded it, its license, and how long the project's account has existed.
  • Best Version For You: if players say a game's newest version doesn't start, Decomp Buddy installs the last version that ran well, until a newer one comes out.
  • Notify Me on Coming Soon games: Decomp Buddy tells you the day one can be played, and puts it on a Now Playable list. Nothing is sent anywhere.
  • Install Doctor: when a game won't start, it checks the usual reasons (missing files, the wrong game file, a program that isn't allowed to run, a Mac blocking it, missing Windows parts, graphics errors) and offers a button for each fix.
  • What It Adds: badges for 60 FPS, Widescreen, HD, Ray Tracing, Mods, Online Play and Local Multiplayer, each one quoted from the project's own README, with a filter in Browse.
  • Finds your Steam, GOG and Epic games: PC remakes like Fallout 2 Community Edition fill in the files they need from the copy you already own, copied and never moved, so the game still works in Steam.

Better

  • When GitHub limits how many lookups your internet connection can make, game pages say so in plain words, and how to fix it with a free GitHub token.
  • Every game folder now has an About This Game.txt that says which version it is, who made it and where its updates come from, so a folder copied to another computer still says what it is.

Fixed

  • Some game pages showed an error message from GitHub where the project's description should be.
  • GitLab games no longer drop out of the catalog by mistake.
  • Setting up two versions of the same game at once no longer fails on the second one: a game file both of them use is copied instead of moved.

Removed

  • The 48-hour wait for new game versions. A new version arrives as soon as it passes the malware scan and the uploader check.

Version 0.30.7 · October 26, 2026

New

  • Couch Mode has a Get More Games tile, so you can browse and set up games without leaving Gaming Mode.

Better

  • The Steam Deck download comes out with every release, and the Steam Deck version tells you when a newer one is out.

Fixed

  • Add Decomp Buddy To Steam works from the Steam Deck version. Before, the shortcut opened to a black screen. If you added it before, add it again once (Settings, Add Decomp Buddy To Steam).
  • The AppImage shortcut no longer loads Steam's overlay into Decomp Buddy, a common cause of black screens in Gaming Mode.

Version 0.30.6 · October 21, 2026

New

  • Phone Link: get ready for Decomp Buddy Remote, our upcoming iPhone app. Switch it on in Settings and your phone can browse, install, update and start games on this computer. Home Wi-Fi only, encrypted, and off until you turn it on.

Fixed

  • Sending games to another computer no longer shares this computer's network name.

Version 0.30.5 · October 20, 2026

New

  • Game File Finder: add the folders where you keep your own game files (Settings, Game File Library) and Decomp Buddy tells you how many catalog games they can play on this computer. The new "Games I Have Files For" filter keeps them in Browse.

Version 0.30.4 · October 20, 2026

Better

  • Search is smarter: words can be in any order, numbers match Roman numerals ("God of War 3" finds God of War III), and the best matches come first.

Version 0.30.3 · October 20, 2026

Better

  • Coming Soon shows box art for games that have a known cover.
  • The catalog passed 1,750 games, with more places checked for new ones every day.

Version 0.30.2 · October 19, 2026

Fixed

  • Using your own Claude key with newer Claude models failed with "The compiled grammar is too large". Decomp Buddy now asks for plain answers and checks them itself.

Version 0.30.1 · October 19, 2026

Better

  • Box art for many more games, with smarter title matching. When two different games share a name, Decomp Buddy leaves the cover blank rather than guess.
  • Windows builds named "-PC-" are recognized as Windows downloads.

Fixed

  • Malware scan: a scan that runs out of time no longer counts as a flag, and downloads that arrive garbled are retried.

Version 0.30.0 · October 18, 2026

New

  • Downloads are scanned for malware, and a game marked Scanned For Malware only ever installs the exact file that was scanned. If a project swaps the file, it waits for a new scan.
  • New versions wait 48 hours and must come from the project's usual uploader before anyone gets them.
  • Auto Update: check on a schedule, install updates by themselves (saves backed up first), keep running in the tray, start with your computer. Per game: Auto Update on or off, Skip This Version, Pick Any Version.
  • Meta Quest and Android: install headset and phone ports over USB.
  • Windows games on Linux and Steam Deck through Proton, umu-run or Wine, picked per game.
  • How Did It Run? Runs Well, Has Issues or Doesn't Run, with totals for computers like yours, a Runs Well On Computers Like Mine filter, and Report Broken Download.
  • AI Use labels (No AI Used, AI-Assisted, Made With AI), only from what the project's own README says, quoted.
  • Thunderstore mods, with their dependencies, for the N64 Recomp games and HarbourMasters ports. Adult mods are hidden unless you choose.
  • Codeberg projects, ARM computers, and more download types (.deb, .run, .msi, AppImage, single programs).
  • Controllers on every screen, button remapping, Nintendo layout, and the Steam Deck keyboard in text boxes.
  • Make It Yours: accent color, background picture and music, Grid, List or Compact layouts, and Interface Size from 50 to 200%.
  • Kiosk Mode for arcade cabinets and shared computers, with a PIN to leave.
  • Remove A Game (to the Trash), rename, tag and hide games, desktop shortcuts, a log when a game won't start, a news banner, and a GitHub lookup counter.

Fixed

  • 164 games whose Update reinstalled the same old version.

Removed

Version 0.29.5 · October 6, 2026

Better

  • Every game in the catalog has ready-made install steps, so none of them need an AI key.

Fixed

  • A round of fixes from a full code review.

Version 0.29.4 · October 6, 2026

Fixed

  • Details about each game, like how complete it is and whether it works on Steam Deck, are read more reliably from the project's own page.
